Artist. Innovator. Our Inspiration.
Your nature GIFs and photography (shot on film) have a style all their own. What word do people most use when they see them online or at gallery exhibitions?
You produce your best contract work when the client…
When you see great work by another GIF artist, what goes through your mind?
I used to ask myself "how"? Nowadays I just enjoy them and see if there is anything I can learn.
The way you interpret skateboarding seems to reflect an informed, inner experience. Do you skate?
I grew up skateboarding. I skated everyday for a really long time. I loved the art and I still do. A few of my close friends still skate often so I’m still somewhat involved.
Does animated photography influence your photography and video work?
It’s the opposite. To me, photography and video are separate entities. While related, the composition and moods differ substantially. I never go about shooting a photo the same way I shoot something on video. I used to shoot video the same way I shot a gif, but that’s evolved into its own process as well.
If you had a magic wand and could make any piece of equipment appear before you, what would it be?
A dream lens (canon 50mm f/0.95) would be rad. I’m infatuated with that thing.
What movie have you seen the most times?
City of God is up there, but most likely Ghostbusters or some older 80’s movie.
If you could go back in time and shoot a cinemagraph of a famous person, who would it be?
Jimi Hendrix playing the guitar…Michael Jackson moonwalking…Martin Luther King speaking…so many.
How did you get this guy to sit still for the shot?
Yeah, Rayden, we go way back. I just gave him some ham. He’s a good dog. Getting him to sign the model release was a different story.
